In this video, I will give you some tips to improve your oral expression and speak a little more like a French “à la française”. We will mostly talk about verbal language but also a little bit about non-verbal language.
Elisions
Elision is when you remove certain letters from a word, usually pronouns.
The interjections / the strange sounds of French
This is a non-verbal aspect that you must decipher and know how to use. The French make a lot of noises between words and sentences, these noises often indicate something!
The expletives / filler words
In addition to noises, there are a number of recurring words that the French use to articulate their ideas.
The registers
This is a rather broad and complicated topic, but you should know that outside of work, in the presence of people you feel comfortable with, you can use a lighter, less formal French. Use “on” instead of “nous” Think of the slang or the shortcuts!
Rules are made to be broken
Last point … from time to time. You don’t always have to follow the structures, they are quite flexible especially for the questions.
Let's work on your pronunciation together!
